Costs of fertility treatment
What costs does the health insurance fund cover for your desire to have a child?
Stimulations and inseminations
In Switzerland, infertility tests (e.g. fallopian tube patency test, hormone analyses, ultrasounds, operations) are usually paid for by the health insurance. The health insurance covers the costs of hormone therapy for up to 12 months for women who want to have children and are younger than 40. Basic health insurance also pays for 3 cycles of inseminations (direct insertion of the man’s prepared sperm into the uterine cavity). After a pregnancy, the costs for a further 12 months of stimulation and 3 inseminations are covered. The deductible must be paid by the patient. In the case of supplementary insurance, further services may also be covered by the health insurance.
Women over forty
The costs are also partially covered for women older than forty. After an initial consultation with us, we will submit a cost approval to the health insurance company. Sometimes the health insurance company also requires hormone tests to assess the chances of success.
What does artificial insemination (IVF/ICSI) cost?
With artificial insemination ,in contrast to stimulation and insemination, the basic insurance does not usually contribute to the costs. One cycle of IVF treatment with embryo transfer costs CHF 5200. In addition, there are the costs of the medication, which can vary greatly from patient to patient, the costs of anaesthesia, possibly cryopreservation (freezing of the embryos) or ICSI treatment (direct insertion of the sperm into your egg). Because the costs vary depending on the treatment, we cannot quote a fixed price. We would be happy to get to know you during a non-binding initial consultation and explain the costs involved in your individual situation.
