Fertility treatment over 40

Among the couples who visit our fertility clinic there are many older couples who wish for a baby. Many couples are not aware that women’s ability to conceive is reduced after the age of 35 and significantly reduced after the age of forty. After 45, natural pregnancy is very rare. The reason for the reduced fertility is the age-related decline in egg quality. Unfortunately, egg quality cannot be improved even with in vitro fertilisation. This means that even with IVF, the chances of success are lower above the age of 40 than under the age of 35, and that several treatment cycles are often necessary. Since success rates are low after the age of 43, this is normally considered the upper limit for fertility treatments. For women with PCOS the limit can be 45.
